DUPSY ABIOLA: Founder Of Intern Avenue Solving The Unemployment Problem

BY OJIE KING

“To Be A Successful Entrepreneur The Best Reason To Start A Company Is To Make Meaning”

Taking a direct quote from the About Us page, “Ideas and Innovation change the world. In us lie tonnes of ideas, ideas that are worth sharing. These ideas can impact a few, or could impact a multitude. Ideas don’t just happen; they take a while to evolve. They start as a glimpse of thought that flashes in your mind. And your thoughts need to connect with other people’s thoughts to be fully formed. The Internet makes it easier than ever before, to connect with other people’s ideas, which encourages greater ideas and innovation.”

The reason why I used this quote was that it almost speaks directly about Dupsy Abiola. She has successfully set up a company Intern Avenue which is an innovative and unique hiring medium by which employers can find and connect directly with the talent that they want. Going from the quote, this is an idea that can and will impact multitudes of graduates, because I myself who is a recent graduate can relate, with the problem of finishing university and not being able to find anywhere where we might be given the chance to directly make our cases of our future employers.

Again, it says that an idea can from a glimpse of thought that might flash through out mind. This IDEA started when her sister who finished well from university complained to her that she was unable to lock down a job and also from her time as a lawyer when she dealt with recruitment. Then, on investigation, Dupsy saw a NEED that dealt with the absence of a medium whereby employers can directly look for the graduates that they desire without having to post an advert.

Then, she GOT HER HEAD OUT OF THE BOX and decided to set up a medium by which this need can be met. The website allows future interns to create profiles which can be accessed by employers who intend on searching for talent. In addition, it takes away the catch 22 problem happening now with young people like myself who are looking and eager for work experience and are yet to find and at the end this bites them in the arse because they had no work experience. Also, the website allows the person to show much more of his or herself than would be allowed by a one-page CV or Cover letter (Believe me, I’ve been on it and you get to write and express so much more of yourself than you never could).

It was a risk I should add seeing as she gave up her law career and stable income. But really, life is all about risks. After all, there is such a thing as high risk, high reward. However, determined to take the project to the next level, she appeared on Dragons’ Den, made a pitch and received a cash infusion of a £100,000 from a top entrepreneur in the UK, Peter Jones.

At CreativityTurf we want you to be Inspired, dare to be different, your main motivation for you business should be to change life/make meaning, trust me, the money will come streaming in. Let’s give Dupsy a couple of months, she’ll definitely be rolling in millions, and I  sure will bring to you a video interview, where she’ll explain her story.
