OPEN DISCUSSION: “I Have a Passion For Photography and I Just Got Some Money, HOW DO I START MY OWN PHOTOGRAPHY BUSINESS?” I NEED HELP

So we got this in our email (info@creativityturf.com) from a reader.

“I have been following your blog for some time now, and I thought to ask for your help.

I love every bit of photography, and for over a year now, I have been taking pictures for fun, and when people see it, they always suggest I go into this full-time.

Last week I bought a Nikon D800 and I also bought a HP Photosmart B9180 Printer, I’m still thinking of keeping my day job, but can you suggest to me what I should do from here??”

We decided to share this with you all, please she is opened to any suggestions whatsoever.

Kindly leave your comments below, thank you.

  1. Great question~I’ve been thinking the same thing for several years now already……when you figure it out; let me know. 🙂

  2. For starters, put your long-term (ultimate) goal on paper and work it backwards. What will it take you to get from where you are today to where you want to be in 3 months, 6 months, a year, 3 years, 5 years? Write down the steps and take action every day. It really is no more (or less) difficult than that. Good luck!

Great idea I think the first is to identify the area of photography you want to focus on. It could be Assignment type where you get a contract with organisations, student events e.t.c as their photographer or a Freelance type where you have stock of your photos on hand to be sold when need arises. Also have a catalogue of your previous photo shots and show it to people you could get referrer .

Well I don’t know a lot about photography, but I have a friend who is into photography(Animation photography). He has a website for making his works known to people, He publishes most of his works on there including his school assignments (he is still at uni).
For a starter you need a medium or mediums (e.g twitter, blogs, facebook page, website, business card that is if the cost is within your capacity now) to get your works known to people, to sell yourself, to sell your skills. I predict that once you start getting contracts, projects e.t.c then the sky is just your starting point.

    Keep the dream burning…
    Keep Hope alive….
